The Evidence Record

Eight outcomes, and the study behind each one.

Behind each outcome is a study and a measurement. Open it and you get the active that produced the result, the dose it was studied at, and how it was measured. Where the study used a topical dose, we also share how Radiance compares.

Twelve weeks of twice-daily bakuchiol cut wrinkle depth 20%, measured by silicone replica profilometry, in a formulation carrying bakuchiol and nothing else. Radiance doses it at 1.00%, double the studied level.

The twelve-week bakuchiol study measured a skin roughness decrease of 21%, with the reduction deepening at every timepoint: 2% at four weeks, 10% at eight, 21% at twelve. Radiance carries bakuchiol at 1.00%, double that study's dose.

Niacinamide at 2%, the exact dose Radiance carries, significantly reduced hyperpigmentation and raised skin lightness against vehicle in four weeks, across 120 subjects.

Idebenone at 1%, twice daily, the same dose and the same frequency Radiance uses, raised skin hydration 37% in six weeks.

Upregulates type I, III, and IV collagen. In laboratory testing on human skin cells, bakuchiol raised collagen I 47% above control, reaching 147% of control where retinol reached 119%, a 19% rise. Collagen IV reached 119% of control, where retinol showed no effect at all.

The same twelve-week bakuchiol study behind the wrinkle and roughness results also recorded, in its clinical arm, significant improvement in elasticity and firmness, alongside lines, pigmentation and overall photodamage, without retinol's usual side effects. Radiance carries bakuchiol at 1.00%, double the studied level.

On oxidative stress protection capacity, idebenone scored 95, against vitamin E at 80, CoQ10 at 55 and vitamin C at 52. It topped the panel.

Bakuchiol at 1%, the exact dose Radiance carries, raised skin moisture 16% in a sensitive-skin population, with no rise in water loss through the barrier, so the gain came without irritation.

Principal active · Bakuchiol 1.00%

Bakuchiol is a botanical retinoid, in many ways nearly identical to retinol.

Twelve weeks of twice-daily use reduced wrinkle depth 20% and skin roughness 21%, measured by profilometry, in a formulation carrying bakuchiol and nothing else. In laboratory testing on human skin cells it raised collagen I to 147% of control where retinol reached 119%. In a randomized head-to-head clinical trial against retinol it matched retinol on wrinkles, beat it on hyperpigmentation (59% saw improvement against retinol's 44%), and it left its users with less scaling and stinging. It is photostable, so you wear it morning and evening rather than only at night, and it is not generally known to be contraindicated in pregnancy. Radiance doses it at 1.00%, at or above the level every one of those studies used.

Every benefit on this page traces to published research on the actives at the concentrations we disclose. The full citation log lives on the Evidence page.

The results timeline

When can I expect results?

Different things change at different speeds. Here is the order they tend to arrive in, and roughly when. Open any window if you want the study behind it.

Weeks 4 to 6

Skin feels more comfortable, and better hydrated

Dryness and tightness ease first. This is usually the earliest change people notice, and it arrives before anything shows in the mirror.

Result
Idebenone at 1%, twice daily: skin hydration up 37% at six weeks.
Also
Bakuchiol at 1% in a sensitive-skin population: skin moisture up 16% at around four weeks, with no rise in water loss through the barrier.
Actives
Idebenone 1.00% and bakuchiol 1.00%, both the exact doses used in the studies.
Method
Corneometry.
Duration
Six weeks for the hydration figure, around four weeks for the moisture figure.
Study
Clinical, twice-daily use.
Read the evidence
Weeks 4 to 8

Tone begins to look more even

Uneven patches soften gradually rather than all at once, so this one reads over weeks. Compare a photograph, not a mirror.

Result
Niacinamide at 2% significantly reduced hyperpigmentation and raised skin lightness against a vehicle control in four weeks.
Also
Bakuchiol improved hyperpigmentation over twelve weeks in a randomised head-to-head, graded at the twelve-week endpoint. The four-week niacinamide result is what anchors this window.
Actives
Niacinamide 2.00%, the exact dose used in the study.
Method
Clinical grading of hyperpigmentation and skin lightness against vehicle.
Duration
Four weeks.
Study
Randomised controlled trial, 120 subjects in that arm.
Read the evidence
Week 12

Lines look softer and skin looks smoother

Texture and wrinkle change is the slowest to arrive and the reason to stay with it. Twelve weeks of consistent twice-daily use is where it was measured.

Result
Bakuchiol reduced wrinkle depth 20% and skin roughness 21% at twelve weeks.
Also
The reduction deepened at every timepoint: wrinkle depth down 7% at four weeks, 13% at eight, 20% at twelve.
Actives
Bakuchiol 1.00%, double the 0.5% the study used.
Method
Silicone replica profilometry, all timepoints P less than or equal to 0.01.
Duration
Twelve weeks, twice daily to the whole face.
Study
Clinical. The tested formulation carried bakuchiol and nothing else, so the results belong to the molecule alone.

The laboratory collagen and antioxidant findings are not time-course skin outcomes, so they are not placed on this timeline. They live in the findings above.

Amber oil-serum macro — the Dual-Pathway Renewal carrier-architecture visual.
Dual-Pathway Renewal Lipid path. Water path. Squalane anchor.
The Mechanism · Dual-Pathway Renewal

Two pathways. One absorption.

Three carrier-architecture mechanisms move the actives past the stratum corneum, instead of stranding them at the surface.

i.

Lipophilic Pathway

The oil-soluble actives — THD Vitamin C, Bakuchiol, Idebenone, Ferulic Acid, Astaxanthin, and the seed-oil esters — move with the lipid fraction of the stratum corneum’s intercellular space. The twenty-four-oil carrier matrix is the vehicle.

ii.

Hydrophilic Pathway

The water-soluble actives — Niacinamide, Pterostilbene, R-Alpha Lipoic Acid, and Naringenin — ride a co-solvent phase that keeps them in even solution across the anhydrous carrier.

iii.

Lipid Anchor

Olive-derived squalane is sebum-mimetic, structurally analogous to a major fraction of skin-surface lipid, and fully saturated. It holds the matrix in the upper skin layers without rapid surface loss.

Dual-Pathway Renewal — a lipid path and a water path, anchored by squalane, working together to deliver fourteen actives at the doses that earn them.

Craig King, Founder of Neogen Bioactives.
Our Standard

Why I built this.

Neogen began with a personal quest for answers. A quest that would lead to years reviewing the medical literature, reading and saving studies because the stakes were high and because evidence mattered. You can read the full story on the About page but when I brought that same tenacity and discipline in research to skincare, the category felt thin: familiar actives used at token doses, more for recognition than rigor, carrier oils treated like background material, formulas built to sound impressive rather than actually perform.

Radiance came from a different approach altogether. Every ingredient had to earn its place. Every dose had to connect back to published work. Each of the twenty-four botanical oils had to bring real chemistry to the formula, not just a beautiful name. Nothing in the bottle is there to fill space. Nothing is there because it markets well. One standard, start to finish.

Questions & Safety

Everything you need to know, plainly answered.

Yes. The Fragrance-Free edition is formulated for dermatological neutrality, with no fragrance complex and no scent-masking. Bisabolol at 0.30% and Calendula CO₂ at 0.50% buffer skin comfort, and the actives sit in an anhydrous oil base rather than a water-and-surfactant system, so there is nothing to sting.

Personal preference. Both editions ship at $245 / 30 mL with the identical active and oil architecture. Fragrance-Free is the right choice for post-procedure skin, sensitive-skin profiles, and pregnancy or nursing. Signature adds an unnamed botanical fragrance and nothing else.

For over-the-counter retinol, yes. Bakuchiol is a botanical retinoid, and its effect on skin-cell gene expression closely overlaps retinol's. In a twelve-week randomized head-to-head against retinol it matched retinol on wrinkles and beat it on hyperpigmentation, where 59% of users saw improvement against retinol's 44%, with less scaling and stinging. It is photostable, so you wear it morning and evening rather than only at night. It will not replace a tretinoin prescription written for a clinical indication.

You do not need a separate vitamin C. Radiance already carries THD-Ascorbate at 2%, a stable, oil-soluble vitamin C. If you use AHAs or BHAs, apply the acid first and let it absorb, then layer Radiance on top.

The Fragrance-Free edition is the appropriate choice. Bakuchiol is not generally known to be contraindicated in pregnancy, where retinoids carry a contraindication. As with any product during pregnancy or nursing, defer to your obstetrician.

Twice daily is the directed use, and it is the dosing used in the published bakuchiol studies. Either time works on its own. If you already use a prescription retinoid, apply Radiance in the morning and keep the retinoid for the evening.

Yes, gently. Sweep a small amount across the orbital bone with your fourth finger. Stay off the lash line and let it settle rather than dragging it in.

Different outcomes arrive on different timelines. In independent ingredient-level testing, hydration and comfort showed measured improvement in the four to six week window, more even tone by weeks four to eight, and the wrinkle and texture results at twelve weeks. Individual outcomes vary. The results timeline above provides more detail.

Sixty days, and the bottle can be open. If you're not completely satisfied, send it back for a full refund.

Used twice daily at roughly four drops per application, about seven to nine weeks.

Cruelty-free and vegan. The glass bottle is recyclable through municipal glass streams, and the pump cap and glass pipette separate from the bottle for sorting.

The concentrations that carry a claim are the ones we disclose: every clinical active is printed at its exact percentage, because those doses are what match the published research behind each benefit. The 24 oils work together as the carrier architecture, contributing structural lipids, tocopherols and phytochemistry as a system rather than as individually dosed actives, so a per-oil percentage would add precision without adding meaning. The full INCI, all 24 oils included, ships on the carton in legal declaration order.
